Cuernavaca, Mexico

Dates: 10-14 June 2024 (5 full days)

Location: Cuernavaca, Mexico

Venue: Instituto de Biotecnología, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México campus in Cuernavaca

Event overview

The GBI-LNMA 2024 course is jointly organzied by Global BioImaging and Laboratorio Nacional de Microscopía Avanzada, a Global BioImaging partner organization in Mexico. The course will feature an overarching topic of image data including image analysis and image repositories. The image analysis component will include theoretical and practical sessions over the duration of four days.

Image analysis component will include the following:

  • Fundamentals of image analysis
  • Hands-on sessions using ImageJ/Fiji and Napari image analysis software using Graphical User Interface (GUI)
  • Introduction to ImageJ macro language
  • Introduction to Python programming

The course will also feature BioImage Archive image repository. BioImage Archive is a free, publicly available online resource which stores and distributes biological images. Participants of the course will be introduced to the BioImage Archive in the form of a seminar delivered by Matthew Hartley (European Bioinformatics Institute, United Kingdom) and will be able to learn hands-on how to use BioImage Archive in the form of a workshop delivered by Aybuke Kupcu Yoldas (European Bioinformatics Institute, United Kingdom). The topic of FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and recommended metadata for biological images to enable reuse of microscopy data in biology (REMBI: Recommended Metadata for Biological Images) will also be briefly explored. In addition, the course will provide opportunities for the participants and the faculty to network with each other during planned social activities.

The preliminary program is available on the right hand side as a PDF document.

This course is limited to 24 places and will take place in-person only.
