Today, we are excited to announce that German BioImaging – Society for microscopy and image analysis e.V. - has officially joined the Global BioImaging Network as its 14th partner organisation. The partnership was formalised at this year’s ELMI2025 conference1, where German BioImaging signed the GBI Memorandum of Understanding, marking an important milestone for both organisations.

The conference provided the ideal stage to officially welcome German BioImaging into the Global BioImaging community.

"We are absolutely delighted to officially welcome German BioImaging into the Global BioImaging community. Many of its members have long been actively contributing to our activities and vision, so formalising this partnership feels both natural and impactful," shared Antje Keppler, founder and coordinator of Global BioImaging.

"Their expertise, commitment, and collaborative spirit have enriched our network for years—now, as an official member, we look forward to continuing this journey together and strengthening our shared mission to support imaging scientists and infrastructures across the globe."

As a new member of Global BioImaging, German BioImaging aims to strengthen international collaboration and cultivate a shared understanding of imaging infrastructures, with a particular focus on advancing best practices in research data management. Through active engagement, German BioImaging intends to contribute expertise and foster mutual learning across the global imaging community.

“We are excited to join Global BioImaging and look forward to collaborating internationally to advance imaging technologies and research data management.” shares Stefanie Weidtkamp-Peters, chair of German BioImaging. “Together, we can better support the imaging community worldwide.”

About Global BioImaging:

What began as a small initiative to connect imaging infrastructures worldwide has grown into a thriving network of 14 partner organisations. Together, the Global BioImaging community remains united by a common mission: to support imaging scientists and core facilities, to propose solutions to the challenges faced by the imaging community globally, and to build a strong case for funders and decision-makers that imaging technologies and research infrastructures are essential for advancing the life sciences. By working together and building capacity internationally, we aim to leverage each other's strengths and expertise to support the global imaging community.

About German BioImaging:

The German BioImaging - Society for Microscopy and Image Analysis e.V. is a scientific society representing the interests of students, researchers, core facilities, and professionals across Germany who are involved in microscopy, image data analysis, and research data management in the life sciences. German BioImaging fosters knowledge exchange within this diverse community and promotes active interaction between students, scientists, and engineers from academia and industry. By supporting collaboration and capacity building, the society plays a central role in advancing imaging technologies and research infrastructure nationally and internationally.

1The ELMI conference is a vibrant hub for members of the global microscopy community, who come together once a year to exchange ideas on technological advances, emerging trends, and—during a dedicated full-day session—the crucial role of imaging core facilities. As a strong advocate for imaging scientists and core facilities, Global BioImaging co-hosted a career paths session for imaging core facility staff, which sparked inspiring discussions that are already shaping future initiatives (more about the session and available resources here: https://globalbioimaging.org/news/career-paths-in-focus-imaging-scientists-take-the-spotlight-at-elmi2025-core-facilities-day))
